The Flatbread Grille
Upper Montclair, NJ

by Lisa Giassa
(Bogota, NJ)

The Flatbread Grille (www.flatbreadgrille.com) was started by three sisters, ages 27, 26 and 32 each with strong opinions going into business together.Add in that they are first generation American born to Turkish immigrants with an incredibly strong work ethic so strong in fact, that they had their daughters “helping out” at the family restaurant when they were as young as 7, 8 and 13. Despite the fact that the girls studied different things in college, they bonded together and in 2008 decided to shake things up in the “fresh-casual” restaurant scene. They opened Flatbread Grill in Upper Montclair, the only fresh casual Turkish-Mediterranean brand in which original flatbreads are baked and served on premises every day.

Their goal is to become the Chipotle of Turkish/Med. Not sure if you had the pleasure of dining at Flatbread Grill in Upper Montclair. But, if you haven’t yet, you must. These girls are the real deal as is their food and their vision.

Goofball Galaxy will premiere at the
New Jersey Meadowlands Environmental Center

by Richard Jacovitz
(Lyndhurst, NJ)

Goofball Galaxy is a place where children live before they are born on earth. A sandy haired boy named Max, the king of Goofball Galaxy, must go on a series of adventures to save the Galaxy, since no children are leaving the galaxy to begin their lives on Earth. Something has clogged up the universe, and the children cannot hear their mothers calling to them. Max travels to the planet Sleep and Snore ™ to save the children from sleeping 23 hours a day, like the adults. He slays a bacteria infested dinosaur on Germy Wormy Land ™, and tricks a one-eyed Cyclops on the garbage infested planet of Humongo ™. Through humor and song, and episodic adventures, Max comes to learn that Goofball Galaxy is ailing, because people are not taking care of their beautiful planets.

On December 11th at 10:30 am and December 12th at 1pm Goofball Galaxy will premiere at the New Jersey Meadowlands Environmental Center located at Two DeKorte Plaza, Lyndhurst, NJ.

The approximately one hour play will be directed by Jono Hustis who will also perform with a number of members of the highly regarded children’s acting troupe, Story Pirates. Goofball Galaxy will be directed and performed under the name of Story Pirates: Generation Collaboration. Tickets are $5.00 and $4.00 for members.

ANNUAL PUMPKINLAND FESTIVAL OFFERS AFFORDABLE FAMILY FUN AT HEAVEN HILL FARM

by Phyllis Emmerich
(Vernon, NJ, USA)

The 2009 Pumpkinland Festival at Heaven Hill Farm in Vernon, New Jersey offers a variety of country-style family entertainment for festival goers of all ages every Saturday and Sunday from September 19- October 25 including Monday, Columbus Day.

The festival will kick off with loads of affordable family entertainment. Enjoy the scenic countryside on an old-fashioned hayride. Stroll through our pumpkin patches bursting with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes and find that perfect one to take home to carve. Pick a winner of a pig and cheer it on as it races to the finish line of the “Pigtuckey Derby.”

“We’ve put our focus on providing the best family entertainment of the fall season offering it all for the price of admission to the festival,” says Martin Theobald, Heaven Hill Farm owner. Theobald stresses that admission prices to Pumpkinland will remain at last year’s level at only $6 general admission, and FREE for children ages 3 and under.

Children of all ages will love feeding the farm animals at the petting zoo and learning the work habits of bees with an up close look inside their hives. Those willing to get lost in the twisted paths through the hay maze and hay crawl may find themselves right on top of Hay Mountain. For the more adventurous, the corn maze tempts the brave hearted to escape out of 10 acres of 8 foot tall Jersey corn stalks and the Boo Barn offers animated entertainment for the young and young-at-heart.

Other not-to-miss highlights available in addition to admission to Pumpkinland include designing a customized sand art masterpiece and choosing your very own personalized “tattoo” at the face painting booth. Maximize your fun by capturing chills and thrills when you spin, speed and soar on classic amusement park rides. Stay for bone chilling terror as you venture along our trails of fear on the Haunted Acres Hayride every Friday and Saturday through October 30 from 7-10 p.m.

Festival goers need not deny their appetite for true festival food. All of the old favorites like corn dogs, sausage & peppers, French fries, ice cream, funnel cakes, cider, donuts and bakery treats, including our very own fresh baked pies, are available on site and for the drive home. New this year, customers can surely satisfy their sweet-tooth craving with deep-fried cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies.

Established in 1983, Heaven Hill Farm is a 150 acre working farm and full service garden center offering annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, gardening supplies, seasonal produce, patio and pool furniture, sheds and giftware. In addition to the “PumpkinLand” Festival, Heaven Hill is host to yearly events including, Haunted Acres Hayride, Easter Egg Hunts, Seasonal Tent Sales and Educational School Tours.

ASBURY PARK (October 1, 2009) – Oceanfront restaurant and bar Langosta Lounge is excited to announce it has joined teams with Aaron D. Coleman of Pyramid Productions to bring Asbury Park one of the biggest and scariest Halloween parties the city has seen in decades. Coleman continues to push the Halloween party limit, as Host Christy Girlington announces such spook-inspired festivities as: a Michael Jackson “Thriller” re-enactment, presented by Asbury Park Dance and Yoga Studio; journey through Haunted Hotel passageways with live actors and surreal scenes that will terrify; ReVision Theatre special performance; costume contests featuring over $5000 in cash prizes to Best Celebrity Look-a-Like, Scariest, Best Asbury Park Drag and Best Overall. A drag-a-thon runway contest will begin at 12:30 a.m. sharp!

LEGEND OF THE FALL TO PLAY HALLOWEEN BASH AT CORNERSTONE INN, CARLSTADT

Courtesy of Dave Falcone

Courtesy of Dave Falcone

LEGEND OF THE FALL will be playing an all-ages show at The Cornerstone Inn, 491 Broad Street in Carlstadt, NJ and being billed as HALLOWEEN BASH - PT II. Fans are encouraged to come in costume (as will the band!). Tickets are $12 and available at the door or by contacting [email protected].

LEGEND OF THE FALL first stepped on a stage in April 2007. The adrenaline and cries of the audience caused brothers JD, Skyler, Levi, Madison and CaseyJones Alam to agree that it’s where they belonged. CaseyJones was the youngest at the time at the age of 11. Set forward 2009, they are at the ages of 21, 19, 18, 15 and 13 respectively and they are getting ready to take their talents nationwide.

The band is from the suburbs of New Jersey . Being led by oldest brother JD (Lead & Rhythm Guitar, Vocals) they seem to cast a spell of fun upon the crowd that’s toxic to even the sternest wallflower. Along with JD the band consists of Skyler (Drums, Vocals), Levi (Keyboard, Vocals), Madison (Bass, Vocals), CaseyJones (Lead & Rhythm Guitar, Vocals).

The band has created a fan following and has already self-released two CDs: SKETCHES: PART I (3/2/08) and SKETCHES: PART II (9/12/09) and next on the agenda is a record deal.

LEGENDS OF THE FALL are very expansive when it comes to genre. “We like to think ourselves as popcore, meaning we are very mainstream and catchy while putting screaming and breakdowns in our music..” JD adds. “Our Dad and his band have been a huge influence and we will always be thankful that he taught us. Not to mention our awesome family who were doubtful until they heard us play, we will always love them. It’s really amazing to see this dream becoming reality.”

With catchy song titles like I'm Narcissistic, I'm Pessimistic, I'm Obsessive, But Tonight I'm Looking Up (Said the Pirate) and Keep Your Emo Glasses On (Scene Girls At The Beach) LEGEND OF THE FALL will grab your attention. Fans can gear up for a heavy dose of their signature sounds and comparable beats to Panic! at the Disco, A Day to Remember, and All Time Low.

In 2 Timothy 4:4, the Bible states "They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."

So if the people of the world do turn to myths and legends, won’t they then think the truth is the legend? They would refer to the truth as the legend of the creation, legend of the prophets, and the LEGEND OF THE FALL!

Evergreen Valley Christmas Tree Farm
Choose and Cut Your Christmas Tree

Evergreen Valley Christmas Tree Farm
71 Jackson Valley Road
Washington
908-835-0557

Our farm consists of 145 acres of which nearly 40 acres are planted in Christmas trees. The remainder of the farm is planted in corn, clover and hayfields. The farm is surrounded by open space with spectacular views of several mountains. Visitors often remark that it is "hard to believe such a beautiful spot exists in New Jersey" and "it feels like West Virginia".

The farm was started as a family effort in 2003 and was the realization of a lifelong dream for the Alpaugh family. Three generations are involved with the farm. The youngest 'tree farmers' in the Alpaugh family are now 3 1/2 years old and 8 months old and will hopefully grow up to enjoy the farm as much as their parents and grandparents.

We have developed our Choose-N-Cut Christmas tree farm to cater to families and the traditional use of REAL Christmas Trees as the centerpiece of the the holiday festivities. We believe the trip to the Christmas tree farm, searching for the perfect tree, and cutting the tree amid a friendly atmosphere will become a family tradition for our customers. The experience of fresh air, farm atmosphere and rows and rows of evergreens will produce lasting memories and revive family ties. We have seen first hand that even teen-agers smile and help out with the selection and cutting of the family tree!!

We look forward to seeing you this Christmas and hope that we can become part of your family's holiday tradition for years to come.

Species...10,000 trees; Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, White Pine, Douglas-fir, Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Scotch Pine
