Opened in August 2011, The Lobster House Freehold tucked at the back of the Mounts Corner Shopping Center is a welcome addition to a town with plenty of Italian restaurants and a scarcity of decent seafood restaurants.
From the nice turn out in the first week of operation, it appears to be an instant success.
This is a preliminary review taken from feedback received during the first week of operation. The comments are too few to form a comprehensive review, and the restaurant still needs more time to work out the start up service issues. Comments regarding service issues therefore have been disregarded.
The Lobster House is not a fine dining restaurant. This is a restaurant that appeals to the budget minded diner looking for basic seafood at a very reasonable price.
The owners are Vinnie Serrantonio and Joe Burzo (who also have another Lobster house in Staten Island) have created a restaurant geared to serving seafood at the lowest possible price. They have sucessfully accomplished this by cutting out all the trimmings that contribute to the price of the menu selections including the quality of ingredients.
Most of the ingredients, including the fish are not sourced daily from local suppliers ---- don't expect fresh day boat fish catches and specials of the day. For the freshest seafood go for the lobsters right out of the tank.
The interior decor reflects their low budget philosophy to keep costs down. The entrance opens to a very large glass lobster tank and leads to the large dining area done up with walls of rustic khaki colored wood planks without any paintings or decorative fixtures. The windows are curtain less and the tables are set with paper coverings and paper napkins.
The restaurant has a Staten Island feel to it beginning with the gum chewing hostess and wait staff with their many "yeas" and "yuz guys" expressions.
The noise level can be high during the busy times due to the hard wall and floor surfaces and the absence of background music doing little to soften the noise.
If you are looking for seafood with the most affordable prices in the Freehold area, there is none better than the Lobster House Freehold.
