A fine dining restaurant has many amenities not found in casual restaurants and features more complex food preparation, higher quality and fresher ingredients. Top rated fine dining restaurants usually strive to use direct local farm to table produce. They also have more expensive table settings with linen napkins and china. A top rated fine dining restaurant will also have a well trained, professional service staff.

Fine dining restaurants tend to be more expensive and are popular for special occasions, power business meetings, and as a destination restaurant where diners are willing to travel further for a special dining experience.

A casual dining restaurant, or eatery typically offers a casual menu with a lower grade of food ingredients, less care and creativity in the preparation of dishes, and high table turnover. They tend to be less expensive and offer larger portions to satisfy hunger. Casual dining restaurants are known to be popular with budget minded people. They also are popular for diners wanting a night out with a group of friends, and for families with small kids. Unless the casual restaurant has a special theme, diners tend to be more local and are less willing to travel that extra distance.
