Long Beach Island (LBI) is made up of separate municipalities; Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Surf City, Ship Bottom, and Long Beach Township (includes High Bar Harbor, Loveladies,and North Beach).

LBI is a summer Jersey Shore beach community with many majestic summer vacation homes. LBI's activities take place around the ocean and bay attractions including 18 miles of great beaches, fishing, boating, para sailing, and of course restaurants.

Only one town, Beach Haven with the Fantasy Island Amusement Park, is the only location on the island with amusement rides. Long Beach Island (LBI) does not have a boardwalk.

Barnegat Light, the second tallest lighthouse in the United States, is a major attraction on LBI along with the annual Chowderfest weekend festival that occurs the weekend before Columbus Day.

Long Beach Island has a variety of family casual dining restaurants and few fine dining restaurants.
