This well kept secret is known by diners from South Jersey and Philadelphia who enjoy authentic New Orleans Cajun cooking, in a cozy, romantic atmosphere, at a very affordable price. If you enjoy the popular Cajun dishes like crawfish, jambalaya, muffaletta, and Po Boys, or are the adventuresome type willing to try Alligator, Ostrich or Elk, then you will enjoy this place. The location is in an old Victorian home converted into a restaurant with three attractive dining areas done up in soft sponge painted peach and coral tones with a down home, Southern feeling. Owners Jeff and Brenda Gilham have teamed up to offer outstanding cajun food that is well prepared and creatively presented. For starters try the; The Drunken Clams with fresh little neck clams steamed in beer and finished in a Creole Voodoo sauce. Or the Blackened ostrich fillet served with cheesy grits and a mushroom ragout. Or the Creole Crawfish, fried crawfish and Andouille sausage sauteed with onions, peppers, and tomatoes, and tossed in a sweet and spicy Habanero sause. For dinner entrees, try the Seafood Jambalaya with shrimp, scallops, crawfish and Andouille sauteed tossed in a spicy Creole tomato sauce. Or the Mississippi Lip Smack 'n Voodoo Ribs, a full rack of slow roasted pork ribs basted in your choice of their homemade barbeque sauce or XXX spicy voodoo sauce, served with maque chaux and cabbage slaw. Or the Pan Seared Duck Breast topped with a cheny and blackberry demi glace, served over tasso rice. Or the the mesquite grilled elk chop, topped with sweet wild berry rouge accompanied by cheddar grits and veggies. Save room for desserts they are decadent. Try Brenda Gilliam's Bread pudding, or the Bananas Foster served in a large dessert glass with the bananas sauteed in cinnamon, brown sugar, butter and liqueur, flambéed and served over vanilla ice cream. The service at Creole Cafe is very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable.
