Restaurant Review

The Village Green is a popular Ridgewood restaurant offering a well executed New American menu with options that include dishes for carnivores, vegetarians, and vegans.

Chef Kevin Portscher, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and was formerly the chef de cuisine at Latour restaurant in Ridgewood.. He is also a member of the Society Culinaire Philanthropique, the Chefs de Cuisine Association of America, and the American Culinary Federation

Chef Portscher is passionate about his cold fish presentation and for his commitment to using fresh, locally sourced organic produce, when available. They also serve only hormone and antibiotic free meats. Most dishes can be made gluten free. Pastas are made on site, fresh daily.

They also serve a special Vegetarian Menu, with some vegan items.

The seasonally changing menu is well executed with twists of inventiveness. It's offered as either ala carte or as a five Course Dinner tasting menu.

The location is on a corner in the center of town in an old charming building. This 30 seat restaurant has an upscale, cozy and romantic ambiance that is done up with soft lighting, leaded glass windows, and champagne colored walls. Tables set with white linens surrounded by comfortable chairs with upholstered bottoms.

The service is friendly and knowledgeable; tends to be slower on busy weekends

The Village Green Restaurant is child friendly with a kids menu..
