Restaurant Review

If you can take the long wait and enjoy creative chinese food at a reasonable price, then P.F. Chang's China Bistro, located outside the Freehold Raceway Mall is for you. This is not your neighborhood style Chinese restaurant. It's a destination!

If you don't have a reservation, you can expect to wait up to 2 1/2 hours on a weekend for your table. Beepers are not available until one hour before being seated and do not work inside the mall.

The decor is attractive with an entrance of guarded stone horses leading up to a stylish main dining area with large tables and spacious booths. The atmosphere of high ceilings and cherry wood trimmings and candlelit tables is high energy, noisy, with throngs of people waiting for their table.

Once in and seated though, you are in for a treat. The food is well prepared with fresh ingredients. The menu offers a large variety of traditional Chinese dishes and along with many Southeast Asia influenced dishes.

P. F. Chang's China Bistro features Mandarin style wok cooking in the preparation of many of the menu selections. Vegetarian and Gluten Free selections are also available.

For starters, try the 1200 calorie Chang's spare ribs, Wok-seared with Chang's barbecue sauce. Be forewarned, the portion size of their soups are huge, and often times a soup order can be shared by two.

The recommended entrees include: 1180 calorie Mongolian beef, quickly cooked steak with scallions and garlic; the 900 calorie Cantonese roasted duck served with steamed wheat buns, cucumbers, scallions, plum and hoisin sauces; or the 700 calorie Wild Alaskan Sockeye salmon lemon pepper, Wok-seared, served on stir-fried green beans, red bell peppers, chives and bean sprouts.

Changs offers a full cocktail menu along with a variety of Asian wines, sakis and beers. The attractive bar is a high energy New York style scene.

The staff is attentive and friendly, and does an excellent job of accommodating the very high volume of people in a professional manner.

P F Changs is very child friendly.
