Restaurant Review

Opened in May, 2008, this restaurant has taken over as the best fine dining restaurant in Ocean Grove. Bia which means food in Gaelic, is owned by Valerie Hegarty and Sean Holmes and both come from many years in the restaurant business from New York, and as owners of the Mansion inn in New Hope, PA. They brought with them Executive Chef Christopher Anthony Tavares who serves up creative, well prepared international dishes.

The 60 seat dining room decor is warm and attractive with off gold/green hues, white trim, dark polished hardwood floors, soft lighting, candles and linen set tables. During the warmer months there is outdoor dining on the heated and enclosed side porch.

Chef Taveres, a graduate of the CIA, is known for his creativity in putting together flavorful menu selections.

While many of the selections are outstanding, there is inconsistency amongst the offerings, especially with the filet mignon that is below par compared to their other offerings. The bread served up in a small dish of butter and garlic oil is plain and tasteless.

The service is very attentive and friendly and takes special care to ensure that the appropriate wine glasses are used for your red or white wine carry in.

When available, for starters try the: Crab and Avocado appetizer with jumbo lump crabmeat, avocado, cherry tomatoes and bermuda onions in a lemon vinaigrette; or the Shrimp Tuscany with grilled shrimp wrapped in fresh basil and prosciutto, served on grilled Tuscan bread with a black olive tomato relish.

For Dinner Entrees, try the Pan-Seared Scottish salmon over potato gnocchi, black beans and corn topped with spicy shrimp salsa in a grilled tomato chili lime broth; or the Filet Mignon, beef wrapped in apple wood smoked bacon over celeriac mashed potatoes with sauteed spinach with red wine demi glaze.

The desserts are homemade; try the Key lime pie.
