HorseBack Riding

Is there any horseback riding in NJ? I would like to go on a romantic horseback ride with my fiancee.

Thanks, Varlene

Frank's Reply:

Hi Varlene;

What a great idea for a romantic experience.
New Jersey does have some excellent places for horseback riding that are open to the public. Most of the trails with scenic views are located in Northern New Jersey where the trails are more rural and can take you through forests, some on mountains with streams.

I think you may have to be the judge of how romantic the horseback ride will be, but I can offer you some suggestions to look into.

Double D Guest Ranch
81 Mt. Hermon Road
Blairstown, NJ
908-459-9044
They have experienced wranglers and trained horses that accommodate the very beginner to the most experienced rider. They have horses and guides for all levels, matching the horse with your level of ability. The rides are customized to your liking. You can learn to "tac" the horses (saddle them), ride for an hour, two hours, a half day or full day. Ride over Double D 75-acre ranch and through the Swartswood, Paulinskill, Allamuchy trails and rivers. The rides are scenic and serene. They offer a variety of rides including; One Hour, Two Hour, Half Day, and Full Day Rides. They are closed on Mondays.

Echo Lake Stables
55 Blakely Lane
Newfoundland, NJ
973-697-1257
They offer trail rides along the paths of the ancient Indians in mountain terrain, swiftly running streams, and along centuries old rock walls. All rides are guided. Riders must weigh below 225 pounds. On Friday and Saturday evenings they offer an hour-and-a-half trail ride with a one-and-a-half-hour Western-style BBQ, live entertainment and lots of quality fun with an old fashioned hayride at the end of the evening. Open year round, 5 days a week from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Ledgends Riding Stables
State Route 94
Vernon NJ
973-827-8332153
They offer trail rides over very scenic trails through 350 acres of woods. Open Saturday and Sunday year around.

Spring Valley Equestrian Center
56 Paulinskill Lake Rd.
Newton, NJ
973-383-3766
They offer guided trail riding through picturesque woods, lakes and they have access to the Paulenskill Trail which is a NJ state maintained former rail bed. It is about 26 miles of scenic riding. They also offer lessons on how to handle a horse in the ring and on the trail. They are open from 9am to 5pm everyday, closed during the winter.

4 Winds Horse Ranch
104 Halsey Rd
Newton, NJ
973-383-9144
Located on a 221 acre facility adjacent to the scenic Paulinskill Valley Trail where riders can enjoy fields of green grass with the river along its banks and an opportunity for horses to splash in the river rapids. The Ranch is home to over 30 rescues of unwanted, abused , abandoned, and slaughter bound horses. They offer horseback riding by the Hour for one, two, or three our rides. Open daily 7 Days a Week.

Hope this turns out to be your dream romantic outing.

Looking For Romantic Accommodations Near The Seaside Heights St. Patrick's Day Parade

by Kathigale
(Gloucester county, nj)

I heard the parade is great on St Patty's Day & since its so close to our 5th anniversary, I wanted to find some place nice & romantic to stay where we won't have to drive to see the parade or get to the boards. Any suggestions? The reviews for most hotels on the boardwalk are awful... Please help.
Frank's Reply:
Hi Kathigale:

The accommodations in and around Seaside Heights are typically motels, popular with family's and singles on summer vacations or weekend trips. If you are looking for a place to stay that is more upscale and romantic, and are willing to go 15 minute further north, try:

The Bentley Inn Bay Head
694 Main Avenue
Bay Head

Grenville Hotel
345 Main Ave
Bay Head

Looking for a Romantic Getaway with a Spa
Near a Train Station

I would like to know which is the best NJ hotel near Amtrack. I'm coming from NYC. My husband and i would like to spend a Saturday evening and leave Sunday morning. We'd like a hotel that has a spa. We'd also like a less hectic atmosphere.
Thanks!

Hi Bola:
Most of the best romantic spa resorts in NJ, with a less hectic atmosphere, are located away from towns with train service from NYC. However, here are a few suggestions that are minutes from either an Amtrak or NJ Transit train station leaving from Penn Station, NYC:

Ocean Place
One Ocean Boulevard
Long Branch, NJ 07740
800-411-6493
Located on the ocean, has a "Couples Get Away" Package with spa included. From Penn station the NJ Transit Jersey Coast Line to the Long Branch Train Station, where a courtesy van service is available to the Resort approximately 5 minutes away.

Hilton Short Hills
41 John F. Kennedy Parkway
Short Hills, NJ
973-379-0100
Has a 15,500 sq ft Spa
Private Town Car and shuttle van service can be arranged from The NJ Transit Rail Station At Summit 2 miles away.

Princeton Marriott Hotel & Conference Center
100 College Road East
Princeton, NJ
1-609-452-7800
Located on 25 wooded acres near historic Princeton in the town of Plainsboro. The hotel offers spa and on site dining, and has weekend special packages.
Check with the Hotel for private car service to/from the Princeton Junction, Amtrak train Station.

Enjoy your romantic weekend getaway,

Is There A Japanese Style Hot Spring Near Princeton, NJ?

by Mariko
(Paramus, NJ)

I heard there is a Japanese style hot spring (outside) in Princeton. If it is true, I would like to visit there.

Reply:
Hi Mariko,

Yes there is a beautiful outside Japanese-style spa garden near Princeton.

It has four large wooden soaking hot tubs and a wood burning sauna. The garden features a private women's soaking tub, a private men's soaking tub, a communal soaking tub, and a private soaking tub for rental by individuals or private groups.

They are not natural Hot Springs ---- but its the closest thing to natural Hot Springs that you will find in NJ. By using bromine salt technology they are replicating as closely as possible the natural "hot springs" or "sea water" that mother earth has provided us with naturally. You won't notice the salt in the water--it's only about 10% as saline as the ocean.

The details are:
Onsen for All
4451 Route 27
Princeton, NJ
609-924-4800
Theye are located at Raymond Road in the historic Village of Kingston just a few miles north of Nassau Street and Princeton University.

Enjoy your experience,

Is there a romantic place to stay near Ft. Dix?

by Lanai
(Watsonville, CA)

My husband is at Ft. Dix getting ready to deploy to Iraq and I will be coming out there to see him off but being from California I know nothing about your area.
I am looking for a nice possibly romantic place to stay for two night somewhat close to Ft. Dix but what I am finding is a bunch of dumpy hotels. Can you make any recommendations or at least tell me what areas I should be looking into. I would really appreciate it greatly. Thanks so much!

Hi Lanai;

If you are looking for romantic places to stay near Ft Dix, I would suggest Lambertville, NJ on the Delaware River near Pennsylvania.  It's about an hour away from Ft. Dix. There is really nothing in the immediate Ft Dix Area that has anything in the way of romantic or charming places to stay. If you are willing to travel a little further and prefer a charming Victorian resort town on the ocean, you can go to Cape May, about 1 hour and 45 minutes away. If you go in October, it is off season although the weather is still pleasant and the rates are lower.
The attached links can give you information on:

Lambertville - https://www.new-jersey-leisure-guide.com/Lambertville-new-jersey.html
Cape May - https://www.new-jersey-leisure-guide.com/cape-may.html
I wish you both all the best and hope you will find your New Jersey getaway an enjoyable and romantic experience.

Hi Lanai

There is the small town of Medford, about 35-30 minutes away from the base with fun little shops and a few restaurants. It has ONE B&B, so if you don't want to travel to the beaches or to Lambertville, this is a shorter option. There is also a B&B in New Egypt, NJ, called Dancer Farm, which is set on a horse farm. It's about 19 miles from base, and has new management. They changed the to "Inn at Laurita Winery," but the web address is still under the old name.
Here are the websites:
dancerfarm.com (New Egypt B&B)
theirisinn.com (Medford B&B)
Good luck and best wishes.
