Restaurant review

Girasole (Italian for "sunflower") is an off-the-boardwalk restaurant is not as convenient as some other AC spots, but it’s a memorable dining experience in a fast paced resort town.

Located near the Tropicana, this Versace designed restaurant is popular with celebrities who look for privacy as well as anyone with an appreciation for well-prepared Southern Italian food.

The restaurant decor is bright and airy, and elegantly decorated with upholstery by Versace and has the feeling of a southern Italian café. The Italian marble tables, gold and royal blue accent colors, giant urns were found during an archaeological dig in Italy along with a glass curio displaying ancient Italian artifacts mixed with contemporary Versace pieces,

A dominant fixture in the restaurant is the Puglia, Italian style, white-brick oven where pizzas and the carpiccio slices of filet mignon are warmed over.

Owner Gino Iovino, who presides over a kitchen that serves well prepared, innovative Italian dishes.

The dishes are prepared from scratch daily. Pastas, bread, focaccia, desserts and pizza dough, are home made every day.

The service is professional, attentive and friendly.

During the warmer months, there is dining outdoors on the lush garden patio.
