This new Freehold Italian BYOB restaurant opened in September, 2007 offering a different twist on dining not found in the plenty of other Italian restaurants in Freehold. The reason to come to DellaSolla Ristorante Italiano is to enjoy a festive Italian dining experience enjoyed by families in many of the Italian neighborhoods in New York and Philadelphia. Owners Douglas Solla and wife Danielle have teamed up to bring their patrons an Italian dining experience that is more than just food. They strive to make you feel you are at home. Douglas Solla has previously worked with chef's from Sonny D's in Secaucus, Christine's in the Somerset Hills Hotel, and the American Place in mid-town Manhattan. Recently he served as the General Manager of C.K.'s Steakhouse in the Renaissance Meadowlands Hotel. The decor is set with soft earth toned walls, a large brick wall with art work, and high ceilings with spinning ceiling fans. Throughout the dining area, there are display TV's that bellow out background music. Many of the songs are Andrea Bocelli and Tony Bennett favorites. The tables are comfortably spaced apart and are set with candlelight, no linens though. It is a casual, dress as you like, down home family restaurant that can be best enjoyed with a group of friends or family. If he is working the tables that evening, ask for waiter David Trotta who is also an accomplished tenor, to come over to your table to sing one of his classic Italian songs. His rendition of "Santa Lucia" was rewarded with loud applause from the diners. This is a real treat! Don't leave the restaurant without hearing him sing, he is awesome! As soon as your are seated, you are welcomed by several of the staff who prepare your wine, and set out exceptionally good Italian bread and accompanied by Virgin olive oil and cannelloni bean hummus dip/spread. Ask for some chunks of fresh Parmigiano - Reggiano cheese. A nice addition. For starters try their Fried Calamari prepared Japanese Panko bread crumbs. They are outstanding and the best in the Freehold area. Unfortunately there is a fall-off in quality with the rest of the menu courses. The popular entrees include; Braised Short Ribs Nicolo, slow cooked braised ribs with wild mushrooms ragu set atop a creamy reggiano and caramelized red onion; Chilean Sea bass Aqua Pazza, filet pan roasted with vegetables in a blush seafood sauce topped with a traditional gremolata; and Fennel Dusted Tuna, sushi grade tuna dusted with olive tapenade accompanied by sauteed escarole and grilled polenta. The most popular dessert is the Marscapone Cheese Cake ---good but not exceptional. The service is very friendly and attentive and they make an attempt to be is especially interested in your having a good time. DellaSolla Ristorante Italiano welcomes families and children with a kids menu that has $7 menu selections.
