This year Memorial day will be celebrated on Monday, May 28, 2018

It is a time for parades, flags, and wreath-laying ceremonies paying tribute the who died serving our country.

Memorial Day is also the unofficial beginning of summer in New Jersey with the Jersey Shore beach communities coming alive with activities.

Many of these activities include music festivals, ethnic festivals, fireworks, auto racing events and special events geared to the kick off of summer.

Wildwoods International Kite Festival

This annual event is one of the largest kite festival in North America. It features kite makers from around the world flying their most incredible colorful creations.
Event begins on Friday at noon with the 'Unlocking of the Ocean' media event on the beach behind the center. Festivities continue with the opening of the Festival Field Tent and the 9 pm illuminated kite fly at Rio Grande Ave. and the beach.
Saturday & Sunday include the East Coast Stunt Kite Championships on the beach starting at 9 am daily, as well as kite exhibits and workshops. A Kite Festival Auction will be held in the center at 7 pm on Saturday night and is open to the public - many unique kites and collectibles will be auctioned off.
Monday will feature the World Indoor Kite Competition from 11 am - 12:30 pm inside the center where kite fliers will showcase their impressive ability to fly a kite without wind.

Tropicana's Free Summer Fireworks Series returns just in time for Memorial Day Weekend to light up Atlantic City's skies with a free spectacular fireworks display on May 26 at 10 p.m. The dazzling 10-minute show, is part of Tropicana's Free Summer Fireworks Series. The shows will take place every Saturday at 10 p.m. starting May 26 through Sept. 8, plus Wednesday, July 4. The shows, designed by Fireworks by Grucci, will be displayed from the beachfront and will include intricately designed scenes and vivid effects including Grucci high aerials and grand illuminations.

This family event features an awesome fireworks show over the Delaware River from the most unique location --- the deck of the Battleship New Jersey! Just a $10 donation will get you aboard for the best view of the fireworks. There will also be music, food concessions and bar service on the forecastle (forward deck). The ship will open for guests at 7pm. Fireworks are planned to begin at dusk.

The Ceremony, cohosted by American Legion Post 372 and Jewish War Veterans Post 126 begins with a fly over from the Air National Guard 177th Fighter Wing at 11 a.m. and includes a musical tribute to our Armed Forces by the Cherry Hill Pine Barons Chorus. This year's keynote speaker will be Colonel Lucretia McClenney. Everyone is invited to stay for lunch after the Ceremony, provided by Wegmans.

Haddon Heights Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade

Haddon Heights will begin its Memorial Day observances with a brief ceremony at the American Legion Memorial at 6 West Atlantic Avenue.
The parade will begin at 10:30 am at Third and Station, marching down Station towards Tenth Avenue and ending at the War Memorial at 10th Avenue and Station where a Memorial Day ceremony will be held.

The parade begins on 96th Street tothe Women's Civic Club of Stone Harbor . Ceremony immediately follows outside Women's Civic Club at 96th & the beach Open House, 1:00 PM at the American Legion, 117th Street and Second Avenue. Firefighters ceremony at the firehouse precedes the parade at 11:00 a.m.
