At long last, the signs of Spring are emerging and with it many out door events. With the economy putting a damper on people getting out to some of the pricier leisure activities, our aim in the months ahead will be to highlight more of the inexpensive leisure activities.

Spring Crafts at Morristown

Features contemporary work from 165 artists and crafts people from across the country. Includes one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewelry, fashion and accessories, furniture, and home décor pieces, as well as functional and sculptural work in ceramics, glass, metal, painting, photography, wood and mixed media, and specialty foods from across the country.

Newark Cherry Blossom Festival

This is the second largest Cherry Blossom display in the United States with the National Cherry Blossom display in Washington, DC, being the largest with peak blooms about two weeks earlier.
Held in Newark's Branch Brook Park, there are over 3,000 cherry trees. The blossoms can be best enjoyed by a casual walk or picnic in the park. The cherry trees usually flower in the second and third weeks of April but make their showiest display for just two or three days. This is a weeklong festival with many events including a 10K race, trolley bus tours, and family Day with Japanese cultural activities, including demonstrations on origami, bonsai, ikebana, and martial arts.

Cape May Jazz Festival

The Cape May Jazz Festival presents many of the finest "young lions" in jazz today. The festival features an elite up-and-coming new breed of artists: cutting edge musicians across many jazz genres, each honoring the legendary players who came before. The 2009 line-up features a Tribute to Billy Eckstine and Sarah Vaughn with the B Swingers Big Band and Steve Butler.

28th Annual Shad Festival

40,000 people will descend on this 1.3 sq mile city to celebrate this acquacultural family event when the shad swim upsteam in the fresh waters of the Delaware to spawn.
