Restaurant Review

thumbs up Reasonably priced

thumbs up Food is well prepared - uses fresh, local ingredients when available.

thumbs up Most diners report the owners are friendly and attentive, and frequently roam the dining area to ensure customer satisfaction.

thumbs downSome diners report the wait staff is short on experience and knowledge of food preparation.

Award winning Executive Chef Matthew Zappoli, along with partners brother Paul Zappoli, and lifelong friend Michael Cacciuttolo own and operate this Long Branch BYOB ---- Tre Amici, or as it translates to English, "Three Friends".

Executive Chef Matthew Zappoli, a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America honed his cooking skills at noted restaurants in NYC, Las Vegas, San Diego, and the Sonoma wine country. The noteworthy restaurants include; Aureole, Lutèce, and La Grenouille in Manhatten, in addition to being a featured guest chef at New York's famed James Beard House.

Chef Zappoli serves up innovative dishes with a seasonal menu using fresh, local ingredients when available, and homemade pastas with exotic sauces including; sweet onion sauce, lobster marechaira sauce, and peppercorn brandy sauce.

The decor is ordinary, nothing spectacular, though the reason you come here is for the food.

The service is down home friendly and attentive. The owners are hands-on involved with the patrons, walking around to personally check on their customers. The wait staff, though friendly and attentive, falls a little short on experience and on knowledge of the food.

When available, the recommended starters are: The Cured Beef Carpaccio with pickled Bermuda onion, capers tapenade, balsamic reduction, and basil oil; and Rikki's Rolatini, with sliced eggplant rolled with seasoned ricotta topped with mozzarella and marinara sauce.

When available, the recommended dinner entrees are; The chef's signature dish --- Long Island Duck Two Ways with roasted breast and confit leg, lavender jasmine rice, and black mission figs grown from trees on the premises; Ricotta Gnocchi with homemade ricotta gnocchi and their signature Bolognese sauce; and Fettuccine Tartufo with chicken and shrimp, morel, cremini and shiitake mushrooms, and truffle sherry cream sauce.

They are child friendly and offer a kids menu.

They have live music with a house band every Friday night 7:30- close.

New Jersey Leisure guide is the largest single source of complete and impartial NJ restaurant reviews.

Unlike other sources that review restaurants on the basis of a single visit by a restaurant critic, or on the basis of restaurant diners, our restaurant ratings and reviews take into account a wider audience and are the result of a compilation of many sources, including restaurant critics and diners who have eaten there.
