Tosca Rustic Italian Cafe, opened in November 2012, is for the most part your typical mediocre Freehold area Italian BYOB restaurant.
It's a wonder why any one in this economy, would open another Italian restaurant in Freehold, a town overrun with mediocre Italian restaurants, and where a number of them have gone under in the past year.
Having said that, where Tosca Italian Cafe stands out amongst the others, and where they hinge their success on is with their homemade pastas and desserts ---- and in offering one of the best price value amongst the other Freehold area restaurants.
The decor is warm and inviting with white stucco colored walls adorned with framed photos of Italy with the rear wall colored in dark teal adorned with a large frame photo of St. Peters Basilica. The lighting is soft and tables are set with white paper covering over linen.
This is a family run restaurant that works hard to please.
While reviewed as a fine dining restaurant, it barely makes it with some shortcomings:
The bread served with a side dish olive oil preparation is barely warm and tasteless. Service amenities normally found in fine dining restaurants that are deficient here is in not offering a bucket of ice for your white wine, and in having separate sized glasses for the white and red wines.
If these fine dining shortcomings are unimportant to you, and you are looking for traditional homemade pastas served at a very reasonable price, then you'll enjoy this restaurant.
Tosca Rustic Italian Cafe is child friendly and offers a kids menu. There is also on-site parking.
