The Second Annual Statewide New Jersey Comedy Festival

The most comical college students from 29 New Jersey colleges will come together at a series of fun-filled evenings as they compete for the title of NJ’s King or Queen of Campus Comedy.

The second annual New Jersey Comedy Festival, held at 14 college campuses throughout the state beginning in September, gives students the opportunity to perform five minutes of stand-up comedy. Comedians will be judged on originality, stage presence, material and audience reaction.

Three winners from each college will perform at the Championship Finals held at Monmouth University on December 6 for the title. In addition to the crown, the winner will receive a $1,000 cash grand prize, a scholarship to the Manhattan Comedy School and the opportunity to perform at Catch A Rising Star in Princeton.

This year’s Festival has been endorsed by many celebrities and people from the world of comedy including Alan Zweibel, Craig Neier, Mike Mariano and Andrew Engle. Alan Zweibel, an original Saturday Night Live writer, has won numerous awards for his writing and comedy work. Craig Neier, the owner of Catch a Rising Star Comedy Club in Princeton and other locations throughout the United States, has discovered many of today’s young comics by giving them their first break at his clubs. Mike Marino, known as New Jersey’s Bad Boy, has performed in every well-known comedy club from New York to Los Angeles. Andrew Engel, has been a comedy producer in New York City for 15 years and is known for creating the Manhattan Comedy School.

Last year, 87 students from 12 New Jersey colleges performed their stand-up routines and 27 finalists were chosen to compete in the finals. Last year’s winner Adam Mamawala from the College of New Jersey, won a $1,000 cash grand prize and the opportunity to appear at Carolines on Broadway in New York City.

For more information, a complete schedule and list of colleges competing, visit www.newjerseycomedyfestival.com or call Dennis Hedlund, executive producer of the Festival at 732-728-0111.
