Restaurant Review

Sanai's restaurant is not for everyone. This is a venue that's popular with a young energetic people getting together for drinks, entertainment and food.

Owned by former NBA player L. Terry Dehere, he has introduced a hip, NYC style, relaxed gathering place to the Jersey City dining scene

It's located behind the Journal Square Path station in the historic Newkirk House building, the oldest surviving structure in Jersey City. The two-story Dutch Colonial building dating back to 1690, is constructed with sandstone, brick, and clapboard.

In a city populated with many excellent restaurants, the food and service at Sanai's falls below the standard set by the many other Jersey city restaurants.

The limited menu is made of moderately priced traditional items of sandwiches, sliders, pastas, chicken, seafood and meat dishes.

The decor is attractive with a historic, rustic feel to it. A bit of it's history comes through with old wooden beam ceilings, wood floors, old stone walls and a fireplace.

The atmosphere is upbeat with a lounge-like vibe with couches, ottoman's and an energetic bar scene. There is a DJ in the lounge area and on Friday evenings the have a live band playing. The main level is popular with a young energetic crowd getting together for drinks, entertainment and food.

It's also a popular spot for Group-on discount diners attending the Murder Mystery show on the 2nd floor, upstairs from the bar area, lounge and main dining room.

The show is an audience participation event with the audience being heavily relied upon to perform. That said, it's a nice event for birthday parties. corporate functions and other group functions.

Sanai's is open Tuesday. - Thursday; 11am-10pm, Friday; 11am-12am, and Saturday; 5p,-2am
