Become A New Jersey Restaurant Forum Moderator

New Jersey Leisure Guide will be launching a restaurant forum to complement our Restaurant Reviews service offered on our web site. At his time we are looking for moderators to help us launch and manage the forum.

As many have found, our restaurant review service is the largest single source of all-inclusive, impartial New Jersey restaurant reviews. Unlike other sources that review restaurants on the basis of a single visit by a restaurant critic, or on the basis of a few restaurant diners, our restaurant ratings and reviews take into account a wider audience and are the result of a compilation of many sources, including restaurant critics and diners who have eaten there.

With the addition of a restaurant forum we will now be able to display the actual comments from restaurant diners and share them with our viewers and subscribers.

The New Jersey Restaurant Forum is expected to go live in early September, 2010.

To help build and shape this forum we are looking for moderators with a desire to contribute and shape a professional restaurant forum aimed at diners looking to share restaurant experiences with other diners.

Here are the details.

What are Moderators?

Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) who look after the forums from day to day. They have the authority to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally, moderators are present to prevent users from going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.

We are looking for moderators that:

  • Enjoy dining out and sharing restaurant experiences with other diners.
  • Are looking for a rewarding experience, especially with an avid interest in dining out and in developing a strong knowledge about restaurants in your area of interest.
  • Enjoys helping people and are looking for an outlet to contribute.
  • That love seeing their communities blossom and is willing to mtake an active influence over the type of community that evolves.
  • Has a familiarity with being a participant in other forums, preferably with a restaurant forum.
  • Can be fair, consistent, and mature in moderating forum posts.
  • Have good communication and writing skills
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • What's involved in becoming a moderator?

  • Frequently check the forums, preferably at least once a day, and use the moderation functions and permissions to handle any problems that come up.
  • Your privileges will include the ability to delete, close, re-open, and move threads and posts. You’ll also be able to send private messages to members.
  • Before the forum goes live, we will work together with other moderators to create a list of forum etiquette rules. These rules will provide the guidelines to help you to ensure that the community members follow those rules.
  • Written rules will ensure that all moderators are on the same page and the community has a fairly consistent moderation style throughout.
  • Depending on how many qualified people apply to be moderators, and how popular the forum becomes, we could have multiple moderators overseeing multiple topics or restaurant areas of interfest.
  • On most days, especially during the early days following the the launch of the forum, moderators shouldn't have any problems to address at all.
  • If you decide you no longer wish to moderate, you can quit at any time.
  • How to apply?
If you’re interested in becoming a moderator, just visit the Contact Form and send the following information:

  • Some basic information about yourself (who you are, what you do, etc.) and your main restaurant interests are. I.e., type of food, geographic area, etc.
  • Previous forum moderation experience, if any, that you’ve had. If not, why do you think you would make a good Moderator.
  • Feel free to ask any questions about forum moderation as well.
  • I’ve no idea how many people will apply, so I don’t know how selective I’ll have to be, but once all the moderators have been selected, I’ll train them or we will learn together how to build a successful restaurant forum. And whenever everyone is ready, we’ll publish the forum and off we go.
