Getting to Atlantic City From Newark Airport

by Sharon
(u.k)

Hi,
We are traveling from the UK to Newark Airport. What is the best way to get to Atlantic City? We will also be staying at the Sheraton Hotel in New Jersey for Thanksgiving. Do you have a parade in New Jersey?

Thanks, Sharon

Frank's Reply:

Hi Sharon,

You may be aware of this, public transportation in the USA is not as convenient and inexpensive as the U.K.

While it is possible to take public bus transportation from Newark airport to Atlantic City, getting to and from the bus terminals are not very convenient and the schedules of departures are infrequent.

Your best options are private auto transportation. By auto, Atlantic City is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Newark Airport.

Here are some of the private transportation options:

1) Rental car. This is convenient and gives you the most freedom and flexibility in getting around and visiting nearby attractions while in Atlantic City. Cost is approximately $400 for the week with pick up and return at Newark airport. The Sheraton Hotel offers on-site parking for $14 per day. Sometimes the hotel has special packages that include free parking. The added benefit is that you will have your own auto for your private use throughout the week. Just remember to drive on the right side of the road.

2) Hire a private limo (taxi). The cost is approximately $300 - $350 each one way (tip included) and includes airport terminal pick up and drop off at the hotel. You can check for rates and service providers at www.limos.com

Except for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, Thanksgiving is not a big day for parades in the United States. There is no parade in Atlantic City on Thanksgiving.

I want to welcome you to the United States and hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday in Atlantic City

Wildwood Bars and Restaurants for over 40's

by linda
(new city ny)

Hi

I'm planning to stay in Wildwood Crest next week Saturday August 13 to Tuesday the 16th.

I'm a single female over 40. looking for a nice older crowd. Anything upscale?

Where can I go for dinner and then move to the bar after for drinks?
How about just for drinks?
What are some good restaurants?
Thanks for the info,
Linda

Franks's Reply
Hi Linda

Wildwood is noted for being a great family destination with a 50's doo wop atmosphere with many bars that cater to the younger crowd. Most of the restaurants are casual, family, low budget eateries with very few upscale bars and restaurants for a 40+ plus crowd.
Here are my suggestions:

Upscale Wildwood restaurants where you can have dinner and drinks at the bar:
Jersey Girl Bar and Restaurant>
Beach Creek Oyster Bar & Grill

or you can drive across the bridge to Cape May a charming more upscale beach destination with many upscale restaurants:
Congress Hotel
Blue Pig Tavern for dinner then head for the Brown Room bar in the lobby or to the Boiler Room night club in the basement
The Ebbitt Room

Upscale Bars just for drinks
Any of the above

Best Wildwood Restaurants
Jersey Girl Bar and Restaurant
Beach Creek Oyster Bar & Grill
Marie Nicoles

Drive across the bridge to Cape May with many upscale restaurants:
410 Bank St.
The Black Duck
The Ebbitt Room
Peter Shields

Enjoy yor stay

Getting from Linden, NJ to Atlantic City - One Day Trip

by Tammy Walker
(Durban, South Africa.)

Hi,
We're looking for an economical means of public transport (any) to go from Linden, NJ to Atlantic City for the day & return late afternoon. We're 2 senior citizen females. As we're on a tight budget, any suggestions of places to eat and things to see, would be very much appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Frank's Reply
Hi Tammy,

Unfortunately I have to inform you that there are no convenient and inexpensive public transportation options to go from Linden to Atlantic City. However, if you can get transportation to a city near Linden, there is bus service to/from Atlantic city from:

Carteret with Saddle River Tours

Edison with Coach USA/Suburban Transit

Union City with Academy Bus

New York City (Port Authority Bus Terminal) Greyhound Bus Tours -- Most Direct & Frequent service.

If you happen to come upon a means of getting transportation to Atlantic City, I suggest you check out the Atlantic City Guide for things to do and the Atlantic City Guide to Restaurants with reviews for places to eat.

Wishing you a successful journey,

Frank

Do they have Dolphin Watch Cruises in Wildwood, NJ

We will be vacationing in Wildwood. Do they have a dolphin watch cruise?

Hi;
Wildwood is a great place to see Dolphins and they have many Dolphin watch cruises. Just go down to the Marina in Wildwood and Wildwood Crest and there are plenty of boats to take you out.

Also, if you are lucky, you may see some dolphins from the beach.

Enjoy your trip,

I am thinking of going to Wildwood, NJ
Looking for Best Place to Stay

by Gladys
(Providence, Rhode Island)

I am planning to go to WildWood, NJ and want to stay at a nice place. I am looking for the best place to stay, I am used to staying at Marriots, but I know their are no big hotels there. What do you suggest?

Hi Gladys:

Wildwood is not known for having elegant hotels, it's a family resort with an excellent beach, boardwalk, and many fine 50's Doo Wop motels.

Having said that, here are two of the top of the line hotels in Wildwood;
Port Royal Hotel

Pan American Hotel
However, if you are not set on Wildwood, and are willing to venture 10 minutes to nearby Cape May, a charming Victorian styled beach resort, I would recommend the historic Congress Hall Hotel.

Have a wonderful summer

I am thinking about going to Wild wood Crest, NJ for a week?

by Ledia

This summer I am thinking about going to Wildwood Crest, NJ. Do you know of any cheap one bed, with a pool. Must be on first floor or elevator.

Hi Ledia;

I would recommend the Regal Plaza, the Jolly Roger, or the Bristol Plaza.... They are all excellent motels, offer good value, and have either an elevator or 1st floor rooms.

Regards,
Frank

Best Way to Get to Atlantic City From NYC
Without Driving?

by Terese
(New York City)

Hi,

I live in NYC and I'm planning a trip to AC in a few weeks. I already booked Harrah's Resort.
My question is, what's the best way to get there? I'd like to take a bus but Greyhound doesn't go to Harrah's. I can't seem to find any busses that go directly to that specific casino.
Is it normal to just take a cab from the bus station or what?
Also, am I better off just trying another hotel?
Thanks for your help with this.
Reply:

Hi Terese:
The most convenient way to get to Atlantic City from NYC without driving is taking a train from Penn Station to Atlantic. The free Jitney min-bus shuttle is available to/from the train station in AC to all the hotels.

Harrah's Hotel and Casino, as well as many other casino's, offer a AC NY Train package.
The Harrah's AC NY train package includes:

* One (1) night hotel accommodation at Harrah's Resort Atlantic City
* Two (2) round-trip train tickets from NYC (Penn Station) to AC, a direct route!

You can book your package at Harrah's calling 877- 326-7428, select Harrah's Resort Atlantic City . Be sure to mention the AC NY Train Package when calling!

Have fun,

Will Two mile landing and the Crab House Restaurant Re-open?

When will Two Mile Landing and Crab House be open again?
Hi;
They are no plans to rebuild the Two Mile Landing or the Crab House restaurants in Wildwood Crest, and it is unlikely that will be ever rebuilt in the same way or in the same location.

The Re-opening Of Two Mile Landing a Dissapointment
by: Anonymous

After visiting two mile landing after it's reopening this year,(2012)don't be surprised to see it close again. The staff looks like it has no idea what's going on,long waits to get seated, then after being seated even longer to get your meal.Totally mismanaged!!!!!!!!!!!! A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT FROM A PLACE THAT WAS SUCH A PLEASURE TO VISIT IN THE PAST! I enjoyed it better when it was closed the past few years.

Planning a High School Reunion in Cape May or Wildwood

by Tom Gilbert
(West Nyack, NY)

Some school classmates were discussing the possibility of holding our 57th Class Reunion for the Memorial High School, West New York, NJ class of 1957 at a shore location.

We were considering either Wildwood or Cape May (including the ferry ride to Lewes)...
Need to stay over 2 nights; a dinner on Sat. night with a breakfast on the departing
Sun. morning.

Any suggestions as to where to have a dinner for about 65 people, with perhaps 30 staying over both nights?

Thanks for any help that you may offer.

Regards,
Tom Gilbert

Frank's Reply
Hi Tom;
Congratulations, you have chosen a great location for a High School reunion.

I sense that since this is your 57th high school reunion that the ages of the attendees will be in the early-mid seventies. While I don't have the benefit of knowing what your budget is or the what your class mates are willing to spend for accommodations and dinner, I can offer some suggestions;

Cape may is more upscale than family oriented Wildwood and you will have more higher end dining and lodging options to choose from.

Cape May
Congress Hall
(888) 944-1816
Website
An ideal location --- across the street from the beach and across the street from the popular Washington Street pedestrian mall, this historic, elegant hotel offers excellent lodging and dining options and can host private events.

Peter Shields Inn & Restaurant
609-884-9090
Website
If elegance and gourmet food is high on your list, this Bed and Breakfast 1907 Georgian Revival mansion is a good choice. Located across the street from the beach at the northern end Cape may, they host private functions. They have a limited number of onsite rooms available, though they are surrounded by many attractive B & B's and motels within a short walk.

Marquis de Lafayette
800-257-0432
Website
Located across the street from the beach and several blocks from the Washington Street pedestrian mall, they host private functions and have a good choice of lodging and dining options.

Wildwood
Bolero Resort and Conference Center
609-522-6929
Website
This full service resort with a wide variety of amenities is located near the beach and boardwalk and caters to private functions.

The Pan American
609-522-6936
Website
This beachfront hotel specializes in accommodating high school reunions.

Port Royal
609-729-2000
Website
This beachfront hotel is a sister hotel to the above Pan American hotel and also specializes in accommodating high school reunions

All the best for a successful reunion

Frank

Hi Mimi,

Welcome to New Jersey and to Morey´s Piers water park in Wildwood,

Unfortunately, public transportation from Newark Airport to Wildwood is not direct and requires you transfer to two other busses.

From Newark Airport, at one of the Airline terminals, take a bus to NYC and transfer to another Bus to Atlantic City, where you transfer to the Cape May bus, getting off at the Wildwood bus Terminal

The entire trip can take approximately 6 Hours

Please visit the NJ Transit Web Site for details and ticket booking at http://www.njtransit.com/
