This is a local favorite with diners who enjoy very good French - Bistro fare in a country style, congenial atmosphere. The restaurant is located in an elegantly decorated storefront setting and has an attractive bar with polished plank flooring and two large plate-glass windows with many tables having an outdoor view. Co-owners Chef Michael Peters and his wife Marybeth Peters offer a creative menu with fresh ingredients, and whenever possible, purchased from local farmers. While the menu changes seasonally, there are some popular dishes that are offered throughout the year. The recommended starters are; the Country terrine with pistachio in a Cumberland sauce; and the Steamed mussels with coconut milk, thai curry, lemongrass, and cilantro. The recommended entrees are; The Roast Free-Range Chicken with garlic, pearl couscous, brocolini; The Medallions of Venison with sauce poivrade, spaetzle, red cabbage, and chestnuts; and the Monkfish with lobster sauce, black forbidden rice, and zucchini. Save room for the desserts, they are exceptional. The recommendations are; Profiteroles with Belgian chocolate sauce; Poached pear in red wine, and blackcurrant sorbet; and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Service is inconsistent. They are efficient, but can vary from friendly and attentive to indifferent and robotic, depending on the night of the week and the staff on duty. |
