Restaurant Review

Local Seasonal Kitchen is an excellent, well executed example of a restaurant following the new trend of being committed to using ingredients from locally grown produce, meat, and wild caught seafood with an emphasis on organic ingredients and farms that use a sustainable approach of Integrated Pest Management..

The restaurant is the creation of Owner/Executive Chef Steven Santoro. While the menu is mostly new American the calendar, the farmer, and the availability of fresh seasonal ingredients drives the menu rather than any one ethnic cuisine. Santoro serves only hormone-free, antibiotic-free meat and refuses to use farm-raised fish.

Steve Santoro is a "seasoned" chef who previously owned Santoro’s in Teaneck and Sam’s Restaurant and Bar in Cresskill, Dish in Passaic, and prior to opening this restaurant, spent eight years running the kitchen at Fresco in midtown Manhattan. Before his recent past, he worked La Côte Basque and Café des Artistes, in Manhattan as well as working at the Culinary Institute of America, where he was a teacher and chef.

His food preparation is simple, and geared to bringing out the full flavor of the natural foods and ingredients. The preparation is light on sauces and seasoning that can drown out or mask the taste of quality, fresh ingredients.

The location of Local Seasonal Kitchen in a strip mall next to a takeout Chinese restaurant shouldn't discourage you from entering or tempering your expectations. Once you enter you will soon learn of a wonderful dining experience that lies ahead.

The ambiance is sophisticated and upscale with a NYC/San Francisco vibe. Upon entering you will be greeted by a friendly hostess in front of an attractive, massive wood tree trunk piece behind her.

The dining area gives off a warm feel with earthy colors, wood, and bricks. The walls are adorned with paintings of Utah dessert landscapes. Tables rest upon stoned tiled flooring and are set with cloth linen. High ceilings help control the noise level.

The seasonally and daily changing menu, driven by the availability of fresh ingredients, is printed on a one page flyer.

Local Seasonal Kitchen is open Tuesday – Thursday from 5:30 pm to 10pm, Friday – Saturday from 5 pm to 10:30pm; They are closed Sunday and Monday
