Hannah and Masons is a BYOB restaurant located in a charming old house on Main st. in Cranbury and fills the void of fine dining restaurants between New Brunswick and Princeton. The decor is rustically romantic, and is cozily situated in three cozy dining areas with polished wood floors, soft toned walls, dim lighting, and white liinen. Executive Chef Chris Posner, a 1996 Culinary Institute of America graduate serves up, creative dishes with fresh ingredients. Hannah & Mason's is open for lunch Monday - Friday, 11:00 AM - 2:30 PM, and for dinner Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings with a menu that changes frequently. The dinner menu begins with a basket of warm white and wheat bread accompanied by a dish of olive oil poured over dry herbs. The appetizers are creative and well executed and when available, the favorites include; Seared scallops, wrapped in applewood bacon, set on a pillow of rösti potatoes, with a superb cream sauce redolent of roasted leeks; Cracker-encrusted jumbo lump crab cake sauteed with a red pepper rouille and avocado quenelle; and baked onion soup with garlic crouton, swiss and provolone cheese. The popular entrees when available include; Basil-glazed sea bass with basil pistou, over a garlicky spinach and braised lentils, topped by sauteed shiitake mushrooms and leeks; Pistachio-crusted salmon with rosti potato, sauce ravigote, gherkins, capers, spinach pesto accompanied by red beets, parsnip and carrot; and the Hazelnut Duck, a boneless duck breast, with mango salsa, blueberry port reduction, and spiced sweet potato. One or two vegetarian dish's can be found on the menu and the popular choices are the Eggplant steak or the Portobello steak. The notable desserts are the creme Brulee and the Blueberry cobbler a satisfying and rewarding dining experience. While the tables are spaced apart for quiet conversation, on the busier evenings or when there are large groups, the place can get noisy. The service at Hannah and Masons is friendly and attentive. |
