Owned and operated by chef Mark Papera, Fricassee French Bistro is a reincarnation of the original Epernay restaurant located in the same spot that he sold in 2006.
After the sale, Mark relocated to Ithaca, NY where he opened two new French restaurants: Dijon, a French Bistro, and Mustard a casual themed restaurant. He later sold both restaurants to become a Chef/Partner at the bistro at Thirsty Owl Wine Company.
Mark is graduate of the Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, and his brief return to the Ithaca, NY area brought him back to familiar territory.
When Mark Papera later leaned that Epernay closed November 2012 and the site became available, he moved in quickly to purchase the property and re-open it as Fricassee French Bistro in February 2013.
The original Epernay under his ownership was a top rated French brassiere and the Fricassee French Bistro is equally a go to place in Montclair for classic French bistro cuisine.
Fricassee French Bistro offers outstanding food and good service in a casual bistro setting
Fricassee French Bistro is set on two levels with the main floor dining area having seating for 40 and an upstairs balcony area providing additional seating for 16. During the warmer months there is seating for outdoor dining
The ambiance is typical of a Parisian bistro. The decor includes large windows facing the street with paper-covered tables set on black and white tiled floor, burgundy banquettes under large mahogany mirrors, and walls adorned with pictures of the Eiffel Tower and other Parisian landmarks, all complimented by soft lighting and a background of old - time French music.
Garage parking is available across the street.

New Jersey Leisure Guide strives to provide objective restaurant reviews .
The methodology used is research, analysis driven --- as opposed to that of a single restaurant critic or a viewer comment posting board.
Data is gathered from our viewers e-mail restaurant comments, Internet research, and professional restaurant critics. The data is sorted, (weeding out the obvious biased, "bone to pick", and out of consensus comments), analyzed, and the review is created.
