Experience living in rural New Jersey during the early twentieth century? With two museum locations, visitors can see many of the tools used by farmers and craftsman during the turn of the century, as well as appliances like washing machines, laundry tubs, and other items from the World War II era.
Stroll the arboretum to study trees and shrubs, or simply to enjoy and enjoy the serenity of nature. The Arboretum is named after the large, 100 year old, hickory tree on the western border of the property. Most of the 200 varieties of trees, shrubs and plants are labeled with both the common and botanical names and offer and endless variety of beauty as a result of peaking at different times during the year. See many varieties of flowers and shrubs that bloom in the spring, summer, and fall, ending with berries in the autumn and winter. Even after a new snowfall, the arboretum becomes a winter wonderland.
Visit the wide variety of unique shops offering many items not commonly found elsewhere. The shops are interconnected with brick sidewalks surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds. Make sure you are there for lunch at the village's home cooking, country restaurant, The Country Rose. There are plenty of picnic tables where you can eat outside or just relax under the many shade trees. The restaurant is also open for dinner on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. |
