Restaurant Review

This restaurant has become a popular favorite with the New Brunswick scene! It is owned by an Italian-American -- by way of Brooklyn -- Mark Pascal, owner of the Stage Left Restaurant. His influence comes from his Grandmother Catherine.

Catherine Lomdardi is located on the 2nd floor, above the Stage Left restaurant, accessible by elevator. The decor is elegant, and romantic, with two gas powered fireplaces, mood setting lighting and rich red walls faced with deep paneled, ivory wainscoting. Massive pillars, topped with gentle lighting, punctuate the dining area.

While the the food is well conceived and made up of quality meats, grains, cheeses and chocolates, free-range chickens, and organic vegetables, the menu is limited and some of the items are very pricey, with many of them overpriced considering the quality of the dish served up.

The finer touches are all here, from the bottle of Frantoia extra virgin Sicilian olive oil placed on each table for dipping your well prepared Italian bread, the fresh Parmesan cheese grated at your table, to the large European style silverware.

The entrees at Catherine Lombardi range from $19.95 to $49.95. Prix Fix is $64.00 per person.

Try the Branzini, a Mediterranean Sea Bass served whole with head and tail in true European fashion, and if you don't mind sifting through some bones, you will be rewarded with a very tasty, succulent dish that is exceptionally good.

There is a drop off with the desserts, however, the chocolate bread pudding and mascarpone cheese cake, recommended by the staff, were not up to the above average food rating given to this restaurant.

They have an exceptional wine list, offering a good selection of domestic and international wines from ranging from $35.00 to $1,095.00 a bottle.

The service is very attentive, professional and knowledgeable, with an eye toward the details.
