Restaurant Review |

This little storefront BYOB American Bistro, opened in winter 2008 by the husband/wife team of chef/owners Kurt Bomberger and Crista Trovato, has quickly become a hit with diners looking for well prepared, creative American food at a reasonable price. The owners have have sharpened their cooking and restaurant skills at several NYC restaurants including the famed Windows on the World at the former WTC. The Belford Bistro, located in the Belford section of Middletown, has a decor that is undoubtedly small bistro with yellowish brown walls simplistically adorned with mirrors, globe lighting fixtures, with tables covered in butcher block paper during the day, and in cream and brown tablecloths during the evening. There is a semi-open kitchen in the back of the dining area. However, if we had to look at a drawback it would be the poor acoustics. When the room fills, the noise level rises to a high pitch. Not a place to go if you are looking for a quiet cozy, intimate conversation. The reason you come to the Belford Bistro is the food. It's simply outstanding. They are open for lunch, dinner and brunch on Sundays. The menu is seasonal, and when available, for dinners starters the popular selections are; Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with roasted pepper aioli, mache and fresh herb salad; and the Goat Cheese Ravioli with pancetta, golden beets and crispy shallots. When available, the popular dinner entrees are; the Roasted New Zealand Rack of Lamb with butternut squash, baby spinach, crispy onions and green peppercorn sauce; The Pan Chared Sushi Grade Tuna with mango relish, soba noodles, bok choy and wasabi sauce Save room for desserts, they are worth dying for. They are brought in from the high end pastry shop, The Flaky Tart in nearby Atlantic Highlands. The popular favorites are the Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brulee; and the Hazelnut Chocolate Torte. The service is friendly, anticipatory, and knowledgeable. Not recommended for children. |
