BRINGIT! 1ST ANNUAL FILM SHORTS FESTIVAL.
Event Aims to Raise Funds for New Jersey’s Center for Food Action

by Jason Rosoff
(NY, NY)

NORTH BERGEN, NEW JERSEY – May 12, 2010 – BRINGIT!, a non-profit project benefiting the Center for Food Action (CFA) is seeking submissions from independent film and movie makers to compete in its 1st Annual Short Festival, being held Friday, June 25, 2010.

The event, designed by volunteers, was created to raise funds and awareness for the Center for Food Action’s programs and services, while also promoting creativity and innovative filmmaking about hunger. Last year alone, CFA distributed nearly $3 million in food - more than 47,000 food packages and provided homelessness prevention services to 1,400 households.

Artists are encouraged to explore their craft through five categories aimed at the organization’s core mission including Bread, Plenty, Everybody Eat, The Lucky Freegetarian, and “Mmm…” Through these themes, they will have an opportunity to explore hunger and life’s downturns through a creative medium.

“BRINGIT! is about cultivating local talent, supporting community causes and promoting awareness all in one event,” said festival organizer Aki Liao. “New York filmmaker Seyi, our head-of-selection, will be joining us to help us create an evening full of fun, excitement and creativity, while also shedding light to an important issue.”

All submission fees and proceeds will benefit the Center for Food Action, whose mission is to provide emergency food, rental and utility assistance, counseling, and advocacy to its neighbors in need in Bergen County and the Upper Passaic Valley.

The event, which includes a screening, awards ceremony and reception, will take place at The Watermark on the Hudson, 8100 River Road, North Bergen, New Jersey, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

For more information, to make a donation or to get involved, please visit www.bringitnj.org or contact festival organizer Aki Liao at 201-569-1804 Ext. 29 or info@bringitnj.org.

This scenic 5 mile race along the ocean is all about the ladies and what makes us feel good about ourselves. It is a super flat course with a great post race party to follow. As women who run, we wanted to create a race that would allow women to do what they do best, set goals and exceed them. This would make a great first race or first 5 miler or a race you hope to set a new Personal Record (PR). Sign up early and you can join us for running clinics in September and October along with a free 8 week training plan to help you prepare for the big day.

The event is a fundraiser for Aslan. Aslan Youth Ministries is an organization dedicated to helping children, one child at a time. Mass Effect Marathon for Child's Play Charity

by Katherine Valenti
(Denville, NJ)

Mass Effect Marathon - Save the Children, Save the Galaxy!

Mass Effect Marathon - Save the Children, Save the Galaxy!

On November 26th, the first annual Mass Effect Marathon video game marathon will set out to play Mass Effect, have fun, and donate money to the Child’s Play Charity.

Visitors are encouraged to come watch a team of gamers play through Mass Effect 1 & 2, and donate money through the site to Child’s Play, a charity that donates over a million dollars to Children’s Hospitals worldwide every year.

The Mass Effect Marathon is a video-gaming marathon broadcast live on the internet by g33kWatch, a group of gamers who provide news and podcasts about the geek community. For three days straight, the group will be playing Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 consecutively. Mass Effect is a series of games developed by BioWare, and distributed by Electronic Arts. They follow the adventures of Commander Shepard as he travels the galaxy, fighting against the villainous Collectors and Reapers. Throughout the game, players are present choices of morality that determine whether Commander Shepard is viewed as a Paragon, or Renegade.

Viewers are asked to donate money via the masseffect.g33kwatch.com website, and as the dollar total rises, the players will change the final outcome of the games. Donations will actually determine what the final game ending will be when the marathon is completed. Viewers are encouraged to participate by e-mail, Twitter, or by live internet chat, where they can ask questions of the players, make requests, vote in online polls that will determine how the games are played, and entering to win prizes. To view the gaming marathon, donate money, or find more information, please visit masseffect.g33kwatch.com.

G33kWatch is a central hub that provides news, convention reviews and journalistic perspective about anything and everything related to the geek community. The majority of the information is done via podcasts, which can be downloaded at www.g33kwatch.com.

Directed by Jeremy Dobrish, the evening will be hosted by NY1’s Budd Mishkin to be joined by Zach Braff and AJ Calloway. Additional guests to be announced…

This year, SOPAC’s Spring Gala is inspired by the vision of Jonathan Felsman, a South Orange resident who lost his battle with cancer last year. Jonathan was proud of South Orange, its demographic diversity, and its commitment to the arts. Jonathan’s vision was to make South Orange/Maplewood a cultural destination, and SOPAC was at the center of this dream. In honor of him, SOPAC presents the 2010 Jonathan Felsman Spirit Award to South Orange’s beloved traffic control officer Butch Larkin. In addition, the 2010 Spring Gala Honorees include: former Secretary of State of New Jersey Nina Mitchell Wells, and founding SOPAC Chair of the Board Barbara Stoller.

Monmouth County SPCA Dog Walk & Pet Fair

by Stephanie Attaway
(Eatontown, NJ)

The Monmouth County SPCA is leashing up for their 17th Annual Dog Walk & Pet Fair on the campus of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey. Last year’s Walk attracted more than 2,000 people and their pets from all over the tri-state area, and with devoted animal lover and rescue advocate Caroline Manzo from The Real Housewives of New Jersey as the Event Chair, this year’s Dog Walk is certain to be bigger than ever!

The event will be hosted by long-time supporter Liz Jeressi of 94.3 The Point. Live music and entertainment will be provided by The Wag, complimented by plenty of vendors, exhibitors and bow-wow pet boutiques, food, demonstrations, contests, activities for kids, photo opportunities and much more. Pets available for adoption will also be featured at the event.

Register online at www.mcspcadogwalk.org and collect pledges from friends and family for your chance to win incredible prizes. This year's Top Fundraiser will have their dog featured as the Honorary Chairdog for the 2011 Dog Walk & Pet Fair! Those attending with a dog must raise a minimum of $25 in pledges, or pay $30 admission at the door. Grab your pooch and help support the Monmouth County SPCA!

The Dog Walk & Pet Fair is the Monmouth County SPCA’s largest fundraising event of the year, and all proceeds allow them to care for thousands of abused, abandoned and homeless animals throughout Monmouth County. For more information about the Walk, please contact MCSPCA Events Manager Stephanie Attaway via email at stephanie@monmouthcountyspca.org or call 732-542-2030. Dover Little Theatre helping the Animals

Dover Little Theatre helping the Animals

PASS (Parsippany Animal Supporters Society) welcomes you to enjoy an evening of comedy with "The Play's the Thing". A fast-paced and funny satire showing just how ridiculous a writer can make an actor appear, particularly when the actor is in no position to protest! Collaborators Turai and Mansky bring their young composer Albert on a surprise visit to an Italian castle. There they find Ilna, their prima donna and Albert's fiancee. When they overhear Ilona in an impassioned conversation with her leading man, Turai contrives to make it appear that the conversation was actually a rehearsal for a play!

So make it a night out, by having dinner at one of the local restaurants, then heading over to the Dover Little Theatre, Elliott Street, Dover. visit our website for directions
There will be Door Prize Baskets only for PASS ticket holders. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
